FIVE early-stage innovations are through to the final of the 2014 Kickstart category competition which is part of the Converge Challenge. This award is open to staff and students to enter their early stage idea for a new product or service.
The finalists are an alternative eye dropper device from Edinburgh Napier University; Dipodo – a personal life science online journal from the University of Edinburgh; an innovation in personal attack alarm from Pick Protection Ltd from the University of Strathclyde and there are two finalists from the University of Dundee. The first is a wearable technology to monitor patient vital signs from snap40 and the second is Quick-shift which is a sequential gear change mechanism for bicycles.
The Kickstart prize is £2,000 for the first place winner with two more prizes of £1,500 each.
The Kickstart winners will be announced at the final of the Converge Challenge which takes place in Edinburgh on Tuesday 30th September at the Edinburgh Conference Centre, Heriot Watt University, where the keynote speaker will be Professor Anne Glover, Chief Scientific Advisor to the European Commission.
